Here is an interesting update on the issue of listing Maven Central. Great people at the FASTEN EU project are analyzing software dependencies and for that they are working on a tool to download projects from various sources, including Maven.
The tool is here: https://github.com/fasten-project/source-populate
It appears to be more about downloading a known project source than listing the content of a repository, but we could try and share efforts in this space.

It turns out we can create https redirection easily, ans Gandi provides free SSL certificates for single domain redirections on domains hosted by them.
This has been tested on the new http+https redirection from save.softwareheritage.org to https://archive.softwareheritage.org/save, and should now be put in place for all the other redirections.
@olasd, may you add the info on the account that has the proper right for this?

Reopening this, as the vertical units in the graphs are now wrong for the "commits" and "origins" images. They all show the 0, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B scale that is appropriate only for the file count

not been executed... some more polishing may be needed ...

Are there any blockers left? It would be really nice to roll this out in the very near future.
